Step:

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar.

  2. Add the corn syrup, eggs, salt and vanilla and mix well.

  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and cardamom.

  4. Gradually add the creamed mixture and beat well.

  5. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.

  6. Preheat oven to 350°.

  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out to 1/4 inch thickness.

  8. Cut with your favorite cookie cutters.

  9. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 350° for 8 to 12 minutes, depending on size of cutouts.

  2. 1/2 cup sugar
  3. 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  4. 2 eggs, beaten
  5. 1/2 tsp salt
  6. 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  7. 1 tsp vanilla extract (I use extra)
  8. 1/2 tsp baking soda
  9. 1/2 tsp baking powder
  10. 2 1/2 cup flour
  11. 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom
